Job summary

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA is seeking a pharmacy intern under direct supervision to assist with drug preparation, maintenance and exams and to support daily operations.

You will follow department policies, communicate with staff, participate in inventory management, and perform other duties as assigned while enrolled in an accredited pharmacy school and registered as a pharmacy intern in Virginia.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy School Program.
• Requires registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern.
• Basic interpersonal skills to interact courteously with hospital personnel when obtaining and replenishing medications.

Job description

Under direct departmental supervision, and following established policies, procedures and regulations assists with or performs various technical procedures or drug preparation, maintenance or exams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs daily operational duties under the direction of the pharmacy supervisor/manager.

• Communicates with hospital and clinical staff as necessary to facilitate care.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Must be enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy School Program.
• Requires basic interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a variety of departmental and hospital personnel when obtaining and/or replenishing medications.
• Requires skills necessary to verify medication information with computer records, and appropriate documentation associated with medications.
• Knowledge of typewriter/computer terminal keyboard required.
• Requires registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy intern.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Pharmacy work environment with potential or rare exposure to unpleasant odors from chemicals. Rare exposure to infectious agents when handling hazardous materials. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Patient care environment involves some exposure to noise and increased temperature.
