Job summary

South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks in Pierre, SD, is seeking an intern for the Spring session to support park management duties. The role includes learning the POS system, assisting staff, delivering customer service, and performing maintenance tasks with tools and equipment.

Housing is available if needed, and candidates should be enrolled in a related program with at least one year completed. Preference for local residents and SD institution students may apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a variety of duties to gain knowledge and experience in SD Game, Fish & Parks.
• Learn the Point of Sale system and assist in troubleshooting for other employees.
• Provide customer service and enforce park rules as needed.
• Perform basic building and grounds maintenance including operation of power tools, riding mowers and chainsaws.
• Demonstrate organizational and leadership skills; support visitors and staff.

Position Description:Interns will be assigned a variety of duties that will help them gain knowledge and experience needed to work in South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. Duties will include, but are not limited to; learning the Point of Sale system and being able to troubleshoot problems for other employees, customer service skills, basic building and grounds maintenance including operation of power tools, riding mowers and chainsaws, organizational and leadership skills, and educating visitors to park rules and enforce them as needed. Housing is available if needed.

Specific Coursework beneficial to position may include: Parks and Recreation Management, Conservation Management,Rangeland and Watershed Ecology, Rangeland and Wildlife Biology.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
