Job summary

South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources and Administration invites applications for a Summer Session internship: Naturalist/Program Coordinator Intern in Madison, SD. You will participate in developing and presenting programs on natural resources and environmental education, staff visitor centers, and assist with events.

Weekend work, weekend availability, and a strong interest in public speaking are desirable.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at the time of application.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference given to juniors/seniors, SD residents, and students of SD institutions.

Responsibilities

• Staff visitor centers and assist with daily operations.
• Sell publications and assist with program materials.
• Develop and present day and evening programs on natural and cultural resources.
• Coordinate special events with volunteers and staff and present living history demonstrations.
• Assist with teaching, public speaking, and outreach to children and adults; weekend work required.

*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description: Develops, promotes, and presents programs on natural and cultural resources, and environmental education. Duties may include staffing the visitor centers, selling publications, developing and presenting day and evening programs, coordinating special events with volunteer and employed staff, and presenting living history demonstrations. Experience and interest in teaching, public speaking, and working with children and adults is desirable. Will need to work weekends. Housing available

Qualifications:Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
