Job summary

Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul, MN is seeking an MPR Archives Intern to process materials, contribute to finding aids and metadata creation, and develop digital collections. This essential work supports archival access for staff and the public.

The role offers onboarding, professional development, and brown bag sessions; 40 hours/week, [Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm], paying $20/hour for a five-month internship through June 4, 2027.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a college or university, or graduated within the past 18 months.
• Available full-time (40 hours/week, Mon-Fri, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) throughout the internship.
• Basic understanding of foundational archival concepts.
• Basic understanding of navigation of digital collections databases.
• Proficiency with common computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Identify and provide access to historical materials to support ongoing organizational projects (e.g., 60th anniversary).
• Inventory and catalog archival materials.

Job description

Position Information:

• Start Date: January 4 – June 4, 2027
• Hours: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday
• Location: St. Paul, MN
• Pay: $20/hour

Intern, MPR Archives:

As the MPR Archive Intern, you'll help make historical collections accessible by processing materials, contributing to finding aids and metadata creation, and developing digital collections. Such work will ensure that our catalog records and contents are accurate and complete, as well as easily findable by staff and audience members. This essential work supports the MPR Archive in making the unique collections of MPR findable and accessible to the greater public, which has been broadcasting significant news and cultural programming since 1972.

Key Learning Goals:

• Develop an understanding of archival and digital collections workflows
• Gain experience working with and providing access to archival materials (both digital and physical)
• Develop familiarity with digitization and preservation practices

Responsibilities:

• Identify and provide access to historical materials to support ongoing organizational projects (ex: preparations for MPR's 60th anniversary)
• Inventory and catalog archival materials
• Curate a publicly accessible digital collection

Required Qualifications:
