The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands‑on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non‑profit, voluntary health organization.

The American Heart Association’s Atlanta office is seeking a creative, motivated, and detail‑oriented Marketing & Communications intern to support marketing, communications, and digital engagement efforts in the Atlanta office. This internship offers hands‑on experience developing content and collateral materials, assisting with social media calendars and content, and helping amplify the mission of building longer, healthier lives for all.

Internship Overview
  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 1/25/27-5/7/27
  • Location: Hybrid in Atlanta, GA. Must be available to work onsite one day per week (Tuesday or Thursday).
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Responsibilities
  • Create engaging social media content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Design graphics, social posts, and promotional materials using Canva.
  • Assist with content planning and scheduling across social media channels.
  • Monitor social media engagement and identify opportunities to increase audience interaction.
  • Support the development of marketing materials to support the development and community impact teams.
  • Capture photos and videos at local events and assist with basic video editing.
  • Research and recommend industry trends and social media best practices.
Qualifications
  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in Senior or graduate student pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, with an interest in nonprofit and healthcare communications.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to develop press releases, news stories, social media content, and other communications materials.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Canva with the ability to create engaging social media and communications content.
  • Experience developing or supporting social media campaigns through internships, volunteer roles, student organizations, or coursework.
  • Strong interest in social media, public relations, marketing, and digital storytelling.
  • Participation in professional organizations such as PRSA (Public Relations Society of America), AMA (American Marketing Association), or similar student or professional associations is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate one‑on‑one and in group settings with community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage projects and assignments from planning through completion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Required: Reliable Wi‑Fi connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M‑F between the hours of 9am‑5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
