Job summary

Symbotic is offering a Summer Intern - Machine Learning Ops to join the ML Operations team within the Software organization. You will help build, scale, and deploy machine learning systems that improve health, reliability, and performance of our autonomous warehouse robot fleet.

You will collaborate across ML research, software, hardware, and operations to scale monitoring and deployment infrastructure. The internship emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and exposure to end-to-end

Qualifications

  • Pursuing PhD or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Coursework or project experience in CS, software engineering, robotics, ML.
  • Proficiency in Python or C++ with ability to deliver working code.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP/Azure).
  • Familiarity with ML deployment tech (ONNX, TensorRT, Docker).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and relocations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and scale software platforms supporting autonomous capabilities.
  • Collaborate with ML research and development teams to meet production requirements.
  • Optimize deployment pipelines for robotic fleets using ONNX, TensorRT, and custom hardware.

What we need

Symbotic is seeking for an Intern- Machine Learning Ops to join our ML Operations team within our Software organization. Your job will be to help build, scale, and deploy machine learning systems that improve the health, reliability, and performance of our autonomous robot fleet.

What we do

The ML Operations team takes machine learning and perception technologies from research environments into reliable production use across Symbotic's autonomous warehouse robots. The team partners with machine learning research, software, hardware, perception, and operations groups to scale predictive monitoring, computer vision, deployment infrastructure, and robotic health monitoring capabilities.

What you'll do
  • Architect and scale software platforms that support current and future autonomous capabilities.
  • Collaborate with machine learning research and development teams to ensure new models meet production deployment requirements.
  • Optimize robotic fleet deployment pipelines from merge requests through testing and rollout using ONNX, TensorRT, and custom hardware.
  • Maintain and improve edge computing infrastructure to support real-time performance and reliability.
  • Build machine learning pipelines for dataset curation, labeling, training, validation, and evaluation metrics.
  • Develop simulation, diagnostics, monitoring, and alerting capabilities that accelerate robotic system evaluation and reduce mechanical maintenance during fleet scale-up.
  • Improve robotic software, compilation architectures, and Docker Compose configurations to increase machine learning performance and balance shared hardware resources.
What you'll need
  • Pursuing PhD or Master's Degree in related field
  • Coursework or project experience in computer science, software engineering, robotics engineering, machine learning, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proficiency in Python or C++ and the ability to deliver high-quality, working code.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure or services, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience working with complex data systems, including data storage, telemetry, camera, or sensor data.
  • Familiarity with machine learning deployment technologies such as ONNX, TensorRT, Docker, or edge computing platforms.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills for work across machine learning, software, hardware, perception, and operations teams.
  • Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client locations and company HQ.
  • Employees may be required to use a personal credit card for business travel expenses, which are reimbursed based on the program guidelines. Eligible employees may receive a corporate credit card based on role and travel requirements, but a personal credit card may be needed during onboarding until the corporate card is issued.
  • The base range for this position in the posted location is $32.00 - $41.80 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
