Job summary

Zekelman Industries is seeking a motivated Logistics Intern for Summer 2027 to join the logistics team on-site in Austin, TX. You will gain hands-on experience supporting daily logistics operations, from shipment coordination to documentation, while learning how products move from manufacturing facilities to customer sites.

The role offers exposure to multiple supply chain areas, with mentorship from seasoned logistics professionals.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or related field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with supply chain, transportation, logistics, or distribution environments.
• Exposure to ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining and updating project shipping schedules and provide status updates to team members.
• Attend project meetings, document key points, and summarize action items.
• Support organization and maintenance of shipping documentation (bills of lading, cost tracking, delivery records).
• Coordinate scheduling and delivery communications with facilities, sites, carriers, and stakeholders.
• Monitor shipment activity and communicate delivery concerns to the team.
• Assist with reviewing shipment requests and gathering required information.

About the Role

Zekelman Industries is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Logistics Intern to join our logistics team for Summer 2027. This on-site internship opportunity is available in Troy, MI or Austin, TX, and the official Zekelman internship program runs from May 24, 2027 through August 13, 2027. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting daily logistics operations while learning how products move from manufacturing facilities to customer and project sites. Working alongside experienced logistics professionals, you will assist with shipment coordination, transportation planning, logistics documentation, project scheduling, and process improvement initiatives. You will gain exposure to multiple areas of the supply chain while developing valuable analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, enjoys problem-solving, and is interested in pursuing a career in logistics, supply chain management, operations, or transportation.

What You'll Do

• Assist with maintaining and updating project shipping schedules and providing status updates to team members.
• Attend project-specific meetings, document key discussion points, and summarize action items.
• Support the organization and maintenance of shipping documentation, including bills of lading, cost tracking information, and delivery records.
• Help coordinate scheduling and delivery communications with manufacturing facilities, project sites, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor shipment activity and communicate delivery concerns to logistics team members as needed.
• Assist with reviewing shipment requests and gathering required information to support logistics operations.
• Support shipment planning activities, including pick-up scheduling, delivery coordination, and order tracking.
• Assist with preparing and distributing shipment documentation, including packing lists, bills of lading, photographs, and other shipping records.
• Track shipment and order fulfillment status and communicate updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Enter and maintain shipment-related data within logistics and ERP systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365.
• Support the maintenance of freight purchase order records, shipment transactions, and inventory movement documentation.
• Verify logistics data and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with carrier scheduling activities and transportation communications.
• Help document and track freight-related issues, including damages or missing items, under the guidance of the logistics team.
• Support the maintenance of logistics templates, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Assist with logistics reporting activities, including shipment tracking, freight purchase order reporting, and order status updates.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects designed to improve operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gain exposure to supply chain, manufacturing, and transportation operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
