Job summary

NiSource is currently seeking a Summer IT Network Intern. This 12-week internship runs May 2027 and is based in Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.

The intern will gain broad exposure to NiSource's IT infrastructure, network delivery, and monitoring, with opportunities to learn ITIL-based processes, collaborate with architects, program managers, analysts, and MSPs, and contribute to ongoing infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in data science, CS, CE, statistics or mathematics.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
  • Keen attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-discipline for planning and organizing tasks.
  • Passionate about data.
  • History of learning new technology quickly.
  • Solid skills with computers, operating systems, mobile devices and software (MS Office Suite, MS Project, & other IT applications).
  • Excellent analytical abilities, including process analysis and root‑cause analysis.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

Job Summary

NiSource is currently seeking a Summer IT Network Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team‑building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.


NiSource Internship Program Introduction

This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.


Essential Functions

Infrastructure, network delivery, primary responsibility is to provide network technical design leadership and to oversee execution of processes associated incident, problem, change, asset, and configuration management within this technology domain. This includes working with enterprise architects, program managers, IT analysts and managed service providers to effectively manage infrastructure operations and support delivery of Infrastructure projects. It also includes development and periodic review of ITIL based processes and practices to ensure highly available operations and compliance with architecture standards and strategies.


The Infrastructure Intern will support enterprise monitoring by helping develop monitoring tools, standards, and compliance requirements. Responsibilities will include analyzing data, identifying trends, and using automation to improve monitoring processes. The intern will also collaborate with other teams to better understand and mature end‑to‑end monitoring for systems that support operations.


Required Qualifications For Position


  • Acquiring a degree in data science, computer science, computer engineering, statistics, mathematics

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study

Salary Range*

$19.80 - $33.00


The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills, job-related knowledge and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
