McCarthy Improvement is seeking a Fleet Data Analytics Intern for Summer 2027 based in Davenport, Iowa. The role offers 32–40 hours per week with a flexible schedule around school timelines, and involves analyzing a fleet of 300+ pieces of heavy equipment.

You will collect usage data, build dashboards in Power BI or Tableau, verify data in the field, and help inform equipment replacement and allocation decisions under supervision of the Equipment and Risk Managers.

Qualifications

McCarthy Improvement is looking for a Fleet Data Analytics Intern for Summer, 2027. This position will be based out of our location in Davenport, Iowa.

Applicants who are pursuing any level college degree in data analytics, business analytics, information systems, or a related field are encouraged to apply. This would be a full time role scheduled 32-40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule based on school timelines.

What can you expect in this role?

At MCI, we manage a fleet of over 300 pieces of heavy equipment. We're looking for a highly motivated, data-driven intern to help us better understand how that fleet is being used - and where we can improve. This role is roughly split 50% in the office analyzing data, and 50% in the field verifying it against real equipment, so a clean driving record and valid driver's license are a must.

Under the supervision of our Equipment Manager and Risk Manager, responsibilities will include:

• Collect and analyze equipment usage data (utilization, idle time, hours logged) across the fleet

• Spend time in the filed confirming data accuracy against actual machine hours and condition
• Support decisions on equipment replacement, reallocation, and purchasing
• Collaborate with the equipment and operations teams to translate data into actionable recommendations

Here’s what it takes to get started:

• Ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines
• Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data (SQL, Power BI, or Tableau a plus)
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office products, including Excel
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
