Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. in Seattle is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student intern to contribute to the development of space infrastructure. You will engage in design, simulation, and testing of RF and optical communication systems, and assist with spacecraft analysis and thermal modeling.

This hands-on role offers exposure to avionics, firmware and software for ground and on-orbit systems, plus opportunities to work with CAD tools and real test equipment in a fast-paced, collaborative team.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a STEM field.
  • Strong fundamentals in math, physics, or engineering.
  • Ability to work hands-on in labs and with test equipment.
  • Collaborative, self-directed work style; comfort with ambiguity and learning quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulation, and testing of RF/optical communication systems and components.
  • Spacecraft and launch vehicle analysis, thermal modeling, and mechanical design.

Job description

Cowboy Space Corp. is building the infrastructure to power and connect the orbital economy. Our satellites operate in Low Earth Orbit to collect sunlight and enable a new class of capabilities—from powering on-orbit compute, to transmitting energy via infrared lasers (space-to-earth and space-to-space), powering on-orbit compute to delivering secure, high-bandwidth optical data. By rethinking how energy and data are generated and distributed in space, we’re unlocking entirely new ways to operate both in orbit and on Earth.

Responsibilities
  • Design, simulation, and testing of RF/optical communication systems and components

  • Spacecraft and launch vehicle analysis, thermal modeling, and mechanical design

Basic Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a STEM field (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Materials Science, or equivalent)

  • Strong fundamentals in math, physics, or engineering

  • Ability to work hands-on in labs and with test equipment

  • Collaborative, self-directed work style; comfort with ambiguity and learning quickly

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo) or simulation tools (MATLAB, Python, STK)

  • Hands-on lab experience or maker/robotics background Familiarity with RF, thermal, or electrical systems

  • Prior internship or project experience in aerospace, space, or hardware

  • Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters)
