  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering staff on projects to meet facility needs.
  • Create job order sketches using AutoCAD.
  • Perform field measurements and collect data.
  • Assemble data to create job order estimates.
  • Learn project management for electric and gas facilities.
  • Maintain safety consciousness in all tasks.

NiSource Internship Program Introduction

NiSource is currently seeking a Summer Design Engineering Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.

This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Columbus, OH. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.
Job Summary

This role will assist and be under the guidance of other engineering staff working on projects to match various utility facility needs. This position may also require the successful candidate to evaluate, design, estimate, and provide project management of electric and gas facilities at various levels of complexity.

Essential Functions
  • This position requires a current student of an ABET accredited, four-year engineering program
  • High importance placed on the ability to express technical concepts effectively, both verbal and written
  • High consideration for those candidates with interpersonal skills which are effective in communication with internal and external customers.
  • Desire a quick learner with the willingness to remain flexible in various work assignments.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Collecting and analyzing data and reviewing records.
  • Creating job order sketches using AutoCAD.
  • Perform field measurements
  • Assemble data to create job order estimates
  • Successful candidate will start in summer 2027
  • Safety consciousness required
