Job summary

Granite Construction invites you to join our summer internship program in Salt Lake City. You will assist a project team with field construction activities, document progress, and gain hands-on exposure to heavy-civil projects while earning income.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in undergrad construction/engineering programs, with strong communication, ability to work under pressure, and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Construction, Engineering, or related undergraduate program at an accredited 4-year university.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a high production environment and respond under pressure and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with foremen and superintendent to learn field construction operations and provide support.
  • Assist the project engineer with approving timecards in HeavyJob and ensure all equipment and employee time is accounted for.
  • Provide support with verifying quantities in FIS (Field Information Systems) and log quantities for cost tracking.
  • Assist the project engineer with generating and distributing daily cost reports to the project manager, foreman, and superintendent.
  • Assist with completion of daily reports documenting subcontractor activities.
  • Place material orders, survey requests, locates, etc.
  • Assist with calculations of yields of materials (concrete, aggregate base & asphalt).
  • Support the jobsite daily with the project manager or engineer to verify quantities claimed and stay current on progress.

It is a great way to experience the heavy-civil industry and Granite Construction.
