Job summary

Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, seeks a motivated Architectural Designer Intern for Summer 2027 in Troy, MI. You will support architectural drawings, fabrication shop drawings, and building code research, reporting to the Architectural Project Manager, with exposure to modular design in North America.

The ideal candidate is pursuing Architecture, with Revit experience and strong collaboration skills, and must be authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture or a related field.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Knowledge and experience with Revit.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Highly organized and detail‑oriented with strong problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑paced environment and manage competing priorities.
• Collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
• Available to travel for the Internship Summit.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing architectural plans, sections, elevations, details, and other drafting tasks under the direction of a Project Architect.
• Prepare shop drawings for plant fabrication using Revit.
• Develop construction details for both shop installation and site‑built conditions.
• Research and identify products such as finishes and fixtures.
• Research building codes and other standards for compliance.
• Join team members for occasional on‑site project observations in Arizona and Texas.
• Provide solutions to daily design, sequencing, or integration challenges within the plant or on‑site.
• Promote safe and healthy work practices in compliance with company policy and regulatory standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About The Role

Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking a motivated Architectural Designer Intern to join our team for Summer 2027. This on-site internship opportunity is based in Troy, MI, and the official Zekelman internship program runs from May 24, 2027 through August 13, 2027. Reporting directly to the Architectural Project Manager, you will gain hands‑on experience supporting the design and development of modular building solutions that help shape communities across North America.

Working alongside architects, designers, engineers, and construction professionals, you will contribute to architectural drawings, fabrication-focused shop drawings, and building code research while gaining exposure to how modular design integrates with manufacturing and on‑site construction. This internship provides a unique opportunity to develop technical design skills, learn industry best practices, and gain real‑world experience in an innovative and fast‑growing segment of the construction industry.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and eager to apply architectural knowledge in a practical setting. This role is perfect for students who are excited about design, problem‑solving, and seeing their work come to life through modular construction.
