Job summary

The Hanover is offering a 10-week Summer Internship in its Actuarial team. You will work on meaningful projects, be mentored by leaders and experts, and participate in cross-functional experiences focused on corporate philanthropy.

You will perform quantitative tasks, learn actuarial concepts, and use tools for pricing and risk management during the internship.

Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
  • Commit to a full-time 10-week internship.
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • 0-2 years of professional work experience.
  • Understanding of fundamental analytical concepts and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and decisive thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail and self-motivation.
  • Curiosity and creativity in analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mathematical/quantitative tasks using established procedures.
  • Learn actuarial concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarize with company operations, systems, and actuarial methods.
  • Use actuarial tools and modeling software for pricing, valuation, or risk management.
  • Analyze industry trends and their impact on financials, reserves, pricing.
  • Create and present a final internship performance presentation to management.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

The Hanover’s Internship Program provides college students with the opportunity to work on a variety of critical business assignments, test your skills, use your academic knowledge, and match your interests to a real job. Through the 10-week summer program (June – mid August), You will:

  • Take on meaningful projects and work alongside some of the very best talent in the industry
  • Be supported and mentored by a community of exceptional talent (leaders, managers, subject matter experts and recent graduates)
  • Participate in a cross-functional team building project focused on corporate philanthropy
  • Attend weekly development workshops with your intern peers
  • Join in engagement and social activities with other interns

Our Actuarial team is seeking exceptional college students for our Summer Internship Program, which provides meaningful opportunities for personal and professional growth, as well as rewarding career path options.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Perform tasks of a mathematical and quantitative nature using established procedures
  • Learn fundamental actuarial concepts, practices and procedures
  • Become familiar with company operations, systems and actuarial methodologies
  • Utilize actuarial tools and modeling software for pricing, valuation, and/or risk management
  • Analyze industry trends to identify impact on financials, reserves, and pricing processes
  • Create and present a final presentation for management and leadership members at the close of the internship program highlighting the work you accomplished throughout the summer
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Ability to commit to a full time 10-week internship program
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
  • 0-2 years of professional working experience
  • Understands fundamental analytical concepts, practices and procedures
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking and decision‑making skills
  • A high degree of self‑motivation and demonstrates high attention to detail
  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity
  • MS Office, Excel and SQL
  • Bonus points for R, Python and Power BI
