Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. in Sanford, FL is seeking a detail-oriented paid part-time accounting intern to support our accounting staff. The role is on-site at our Sanford office.

You will verify transactions, enter invoices and pay applications, prepare vendor payments, and maintain project records while assisting with vendor inquiries and AP analysis. This is a hands-on opportunity in construction accounting.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completing an accounting/finance degree is preferred.
• Strong math and problem-solving abilities and accuracy.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and basic accounting concepts.

Responsibilities

• Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures.
• Enter invoices and pay applications in pending for approval.
• Prepare vendor payments/remittances for mailing, online or phone payments.
• Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
• Respond to AP inquiries from vendors and internal customers.
• Analyze vendor accounts and monitor accounts payable for timeliness.
• Maintain corporate credit card accounts for division office.
• Communicate with employees, vendors and owners as needed.

Tasks can include but are not limited to

• Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures.
• Enter invoices and pay applications in pending for approval.
• Prepare vendor payments/remittances for mailing, online or phone payments.
• Maintain project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
• Respond to AP inquiries from vendors and internal customers.
• Analyze vendor accounts.
• Maintain corporate credit card accounts for division office.
• Monitor accounts payable to ensure payments are accurate and timely.
• Verbal and written communication with employees, vendors, owners, etc.
• Lien waiver review
• Inbound and outbound phone calls
• Email sorting and response
• Payment processing
• General administrative responsibilities.
