Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Intermediate Professional, Junior Architect to join our Transportation team in Los Angeles, CA. Provides support to architects, engineers, and project managers for due diligence, planning, concept development, restoration, and construction documentation for public and private sector projects.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of post-education experience, strong rendering and technical drawing skills, and familiarity with REVIT, AutoCAD, and related design software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in the learned discipline.
  • Knowledge of architectural principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with building planning, drawing standards, design, and construction documentation; including restorative and new design.
  • Competent rendering, visualization, and technical drawing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, assist with the preparation of detailed drawings showing both the external and internal appearance and structure of building projects.
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, environmental data, historical use, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform basic professional architectural work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Assist with input of building technologies, concepts, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for safety and functionality.
  • Assist with preparing complete and accurate visualizations using software, technical drawings, software, and 2D/3D illustrations.
  • Assist technical staff and project managers by offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, risk mitigation and improvement activities.

Your Impact

  • Assist with the input of building technologies, concepts, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of occupants and end-users, and incorporating future-ready solutions with architectural design standards.
  • Assist with preparing complete and accurate visualizations using software, technical drawings, software, and 2D/3D illustrations.
  • Assist technical staff and project managers by offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, risk mitigation and improvement activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in the learned discipline.
  • Knowledge of architectural principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with building planning, drawing standards, design, and construction documentation; including restorative and new design.
  • Competent rendering, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
  • Familiarity with process and concepts for sustainability, green building design, and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, technology, math principles, graphics, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., REVIT, AutoCAD, Adobe, Bluebeam, Creative Suite).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Have started or intend to start the process of Architecture licensure.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior Architecture work experience.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation.
  • Familiar with relevant building and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Familiar with Photoshop, Lumion, Twinmotion, and/or Enscape.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $85,000 - $116,000 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
