Job summary

EXP is seeking a motivated Intermediate Pipeline Engineer to join our Pipeline Engineering team in Houston, within Energy Services. You will work on renewable, natural gas, and oil projects, performing engineering design tasks and supporting delivery with limited oversight.

The role requires experience in pipelines, CFR Parts 192/195 knowledge, CAD/GIS familiarity, and the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams. EIT/PE preferred; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• E.I.T. or P.E. preferred but not mandatory.
• 5–10 years’ experience in pipeline engineering preferred.
• Experience with natural gas or oil pipelines and related facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design tasks for pipeline projects.
• Conduct hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing.
• Develop alignment sheets, plot plans and site drawings.
• Coordinate with right‑of‑way, environmental, survey teams and stakeholders.
• Prepare routing studies and material take‑offs, cost estimates.
• Assist with proposal writing and execution plans.
• Travel for field exercises and site verification as needed.

In this role, you will be a part of thePipeline Engineeringteam, of theEnergy Services, based inHouston Officeand have the opportunity to work on the broad range ofrenewable,natural gas or oil projects.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• A role performing engineering design work as the everyday task.
• Oil and gas project experience, understanding of CFR Parts 192 and 195.
• Problem solving skills and ability to find resolutions with limited oversight.
• Pipeline Engineers can perform with very limited oversight – hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, pipe spec, HDD calculations, workspace layout, prepare alignment sheets, site specific drawings, feasibility studies, routing, cost estimates. material take-offs, etc.
• Understanding of CAD and GIS applications and how they can be used to assist in completing work deliverables.
• Ability to coordinate with additional staff to complete tasks and finalize deliverables.
• Can provide direction to drafting designers to complete design drawings including plot plans, plan and profile drawings, site specifics, alignment sheets, HDDs, material take-off, etc without management oversight.
• Can provide direction to GIS mappers to complete maps including route maps, project maps, survey maps, geohazard mapping, progress maps, footprint maps, access road maps, etc.
• Can provide direction to complete data analysis, drawing and mapping assignments without management oversight.
• Interacts with various personnel, clients andstakeholders duringassigned projects.
• Organized and has an understanding of ISO 9001:2015 quality requirements. Can follow read, understand and comply with procedures in regard to reviewing, documenting, validating, monitoring and improvement.
• Can assist with proposal writing, understands scope development and the preparation of execution plans.
• Ability to travel for field exercises, reconnaissance, field truthing, verification, surveys, etc. as projects dictate.
• Willingness to learn new engineering fields of study and technologies and support other professional disciplines to build upon current experience level and increase the engineering team’s knowledge base and productivity.
• Understanding of safe work practices, support project specific safety plans and willingness to participate in the workplace safety initiatives and culture.

What your experience looks like

• Previous experience working for natural gas or liquid pipeline operators or engineering consultants.
• Project experience including pipelines and pipeline facilities (valves, traps, meters, etc.) and coordination with project stakeholders such as right‑of‑way, environmental, survey, etc.
• Actual experience preparing alignment sheets, HDD designs, routing studies, ROW layout, workspace, RMV placement and rationale, geohazards, plot plans, material take-offs, cost estimates, etc.
• Actual design experience, completing design calculations, reviewing and understanding specifications and code, providing oversight for the preparation of design drawings, reviewing drawings and approving them.
• An E.I.T or P.E. preferred but not mandatory.
  • 5-10 years’ experience
• Renewable,natural gas or oil projects, including but not limited to high pressure transmission pipelines, compression, storage, gathering, treating, and processing a plus.
• Carbon capture and renewable energies such as H2 transmission, solar and wind also a plus.
