Job description

Intermediate Environmental Scientist – WSP – Gainesville, FL

We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist to support our nationwide air quality monitoring network, including equipment inventory, maintenance, troubleshooting, laboratory support, data review, and documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with maintenance, repair, inventory, and ordering of ambient air quality and meteorological monitoring equipment and data loggers.
  • Perform and document calibration, certification and repairs of ambient air quality monitoring equipment and analyzers in a laboratory and field environment.
  • Assist with collecting and reviewing data from ambient monitoring sites; perform routine data analysis, preparation and review of reports.
  • Provide basic technical assistance on monitoring site support issues.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Be able to safely lift and move heavy calibration kits and equipment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biology, Geography, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post‑education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Limited travel during the first two years of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with R and/or Python coding.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific educational discipline.
  • Member of or active participation in local professional practice organizations.
  • Experience in Data Science.
  • Experience with GIS.
