Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning for our West Offices. The role involves executing building commissioning for new and existing structures, performing energy audits, and supporting sustainability certifications across multiple projects. Travel to various locations may be required.

Ideal candidates have a engineering background with 1–3 years of related experience, strong communication, and a proactive, team-oriented approach to project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 1–3 years of post-education experience in building or systems commissioning.
  • Familiarity with building commissioning principles, processes and design/build applications.
  • Knowledge of smart building design or MEP construction systems.
  • Familiar with building technology installation, codes and compliance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Execute standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction per ASHRAE guidelines.
  • Perform engineering design reviews for commissioning activities.
  • Support for obtaining LEED, Energy Star, and other sustainability certifications.
  • Handle scopes including mechanical, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting and specialized systems.
  • Communicate clearly, coordinate schedules, and prepare reports for stakeholders.

WSP USA, an award winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, seeks an Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning for our West Offices. Locations include Seattle, WA, other locations may be considered. WSP USA works closely with architects and owners from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.

Our engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of building commissioning processes (new/re/retro/continuous), energy auditing and building retrofit applications, support for sustainability certification applications, and measurement and verification techniques.

WSP USA offers excellent growth opportunities: Many of our senior leaders started out as young engineers in our firm. Initially, you will work under the supervision, training, and guidance of the senior commissioning lead for the West region. Preliminary participation in business development activities will also be encouraged.

Your Impact
  • Execution of standard building commissioning processes for new and existing construction as found in ASHRAE Guidelines.
  • Perform engineering design reviews for commissioning related activities
  • Support for obtaining building sustainability certifications such as LEED, Energy Star, etc.
  • Scopes of work to include a variety of building components including mechanical, plumbing, electrical distribution, lighting and specialty systems including fire alarm, security, and other enhanced building technology/control systems including nurse call, renewable energy systems, etc.
  • Proficient communication and organization skills are necessary to conduct meetings, coordinate schedules, and prepare reports.

  • Ability to travel part of time.

  • Desire to attain certifications such as Cx, LEED, and PE.
  • This position has opportunity to start growing into an early commissioning project management role.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant years of related field experience in the industry.
  • 1-3 years of relevant post education experience in a building or systems commissioning discipline.
  • Familiarity with building commissioning principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with building planning, design, and installation management; including renovation and new design.
  • Familiarity with smart building design or MEP construction systems or building control systems.
  • Familiar with relevant building technology/system installation and/or construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Coachable, prepared and driven to soak up knowledge and training from colleagues and senior Cx agents.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience reading design drawings, mechanical, plumbing and electrical.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $84,500 - $ 105,600

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
