Job Description

WSP USA is initiating a search for a full‑time Intermediate Consultant - Commissioning for our New York office.

Our engineers work on high quality, high‑profile, national and international projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of building commissioning processes (new, re‑/retro, continuous), energy auditing and building retrofit applications, support for sustainability certification applications, and measurement and verification techniques.

Specific Requirements
  • Knowledge of 480‑Volt electrical systems and the use of power quality meters, circuit‑breaker test sets, contact/insulation resistance meters, and infrared cameras.
  • Knowledge of UPS, backup battery systems, static switches (STS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), emergency generators, and power distribution units (PDUs).
  • Experience with witnessing and executing pre‑functional, functional, and integrated electrical testing.
  • Knowledge of NETA, IEEE, and NFPA‑70 electrical testing standards.
  • Knowledge of short‑circuit, coordination, and arc‑flash studies.
  • An understanding of the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
  • Understanding of sustainable design practices or facility operations is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and under supervision in a highly collaborative team environment.
Your Impact
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site during various construction phases.
  • Assist with professional building and system commissioning work by conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems.
  • Assist with development of testing specifications, readiness plans, checklists/punch lists, and cost estimates requiring coordination with owners and other disciplines.
  • Be involved from project inception to completion for commissioning work deliverables across all project phases.
  • Assist with advanced technologies, monitoring, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies.
  • Assist cross‑functional teams with executing project work on mid‑level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and technical calculations.
  • Assist with commissioning and operational plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and technical drawings for presentation.
  • Maintain quality control standards and document logs of control and equipment functionality testing and verification.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of medium‑ to large‑sized commissioning projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry‑level to mid‑level commissioning staff.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during site assessments to develop action plans for high‑risk installations and mitigation activities.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, engineers, inspectors, and technicians on public and privately funded building improvement projects.
  • Remain current in latest commissioning techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds and resources.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction‑related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of relevant post‑education experience with building and systems commissioning.
  • Knowledge of building commissioning principles, practices, and processes.
  • Technical knowledge of building systems to evaluate and test performance.
