Job summary

Billy Heroman’s Flowerland Inc. seeks a Plant Technician to maintain attractive interior and exterior plantscapes across assigned accounts. You will perform watering, pruning, pest control, and routine servicing on a structured schedule, ensuring high-quality service in the field.

The role requires safe operation of tools and vehicles, good communication with clients, and timely reporting of account needs. Work involves greenhouse/outdoor conditions and some manual labor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of plant care requirements or related experience preferred.
• Must have clean, valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Must be able to pass any necessary background, drug and TB checks requested.

Responsibilities

• Water, fertilize, trim, prune, and maintain healthy appearance of plants and containers.
• Prevent water damage to floors, walls, and furniture.
• Identify and treat pests to keep plants disease-free.
• Handle equipment and plants safely to avoid spread of pests/disease.
• Maintain plant rotations, schedules, and stock levels for accounts.
• Document work orders, service records, and route cards.
• Communicate issues or concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.

Purpose of the Position:

Under the supervision of the plant technician manager, the plant technician is responsible maintaining attractive and professional plantscapes on interiorscape/exteriorscape accounts, assigned to their care, on a structured schedule and within an allotted timeframe. The technician maintains interior/exterior foliage plants by using accepted horticultural techniques in an efficient, safe and timely manner, while representing Billy Heroman’s with outstanding class and character out in the field.

Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:

• Maintaining the healthy appearance of all plants by watering, fertilizing, cleaning, trimming, proactively pruning, proper light orientation, removing damaged or unsightly foliage, maintaining planters/containers orderly and neatly, properly maintaining plant soil levels, staging and top dressing.
• Preventing damage to surrounding floors, walls, and furniture from water and/or moisture.
• Keeping all plants free from disease and insects by proper identification, selection of appropriate treatment option and performance of treatment.
• Handling all equipment and plants in a manner as not to spread pests and disease.
• Knowing and maintaining all blooming rotations, counts and schedules on your accounts, keeping them in good condition.
• Maintaining a high level of horticultural competence, as measured by staying within your dashboard goals of time, replacement, keeping high scores on account reviews for quality control.
• Handling replacements as able and appropriate, by making timely requests for replacement plants, having full knowledge of replacement budgets, and following up on any replacements that are pending.
• Proper documentation of work orders, service records, and route cards.
• Timely communication to supervisor regarding account problems, complaints, and/or concerns.
• Maintaining a friendly, professional communication with client contact communicating regularly to review any projects or issues to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Respond and handle all customer questions, concerns, and requests, in a timely manner.
• Proper maintenance and safe use of company tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Pull, prepare and load all needed supplies for each day’s planned tasks.
• Understanding and following vehicle parking procedure (including placement, etc.) for the beginning and end of each day. Daily inspecting vehicle for minor maintenance issues. Ensuring vehicle is properly equipped with the gas card, insurance card, vehicle registration, spare tire and necessary tools to change tire, emergency kit, jumper cables, water, necessary tools, door tags, fertilizers and pesticides.
• Acquiring and/or maintaining a working knowledge of all plant varieties and differences in care needs.
• Monitoring and updating the inventory of your accounts regularly, updating any customer information, plant counts, names, locations, container size and colors, blooming plant schedule, special instructions on water access, parking, security, keys, hours of operation, or any special needs.

Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age or older for insurance purposes.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of plant care requirements or related experience (preferred).
• Able to read a map and a GPS.
• Knowledge of city streets in our service areas.
• Must have clean, valid, driver’s license in good standing.
• Must be able to pass any necessary background, drug and TB checks requested.
• Able to work in varying greenhouse and/or office conditions.
• Knowledge of plant care requirements, related experience or qualifying education preferred.
• Able to make decisions, communicate professionally and effectively, take direction from management and be able to work unsupervised productively when on client sites.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a greenhouse facility, outdoors, and indoors. The individual performing this job must be able to perform his/her job duties in varying climates.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This job requires the ability to lift and carry at least 50lbs. The individual performing this job must also be able to climb ladders; have good dexterous use of both hands; have the ability to use scissors, pruners, hand saws, hoses and other small tools; and be able to apply leaf cleaners and insecticides using hand-help pump sprayers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday-Friday 7:00AM to 4:00PM, with some nights and weekends. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must work a minimum of 30 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
