Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking an Interior Designer with 4+ years of experience for our Chicago, IL office. You will collaborate with design and leadership on all phases, develop 3D studies, and produce detailed documentation across interiors projects.

You will support in FFE selection, client meetings, and construction administration while adhering to CannonDesign standards. A strong portfolio and Revit proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
  • Current NCIDQ certification is preferred.
  • Able to develop project technical or design content.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating design and graphics skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Interior Designer and/or Project Manager with project goals across all phases (Programming to Construction Administration).
  • Assist in development of design including planning and 3D studies.
  • Independently assist in design development and documentation of interior spaces (drawings, elevations, details).
  • Support Senior Interior Designer with FFE selection, layout, and specs across all phases.
  • Produce drawings meeting project time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • Identify and apply building and life safety codes to interior design work.
  • Prepare renderings and other presentation materials.
  • Follow CannonDesign drawing standards and participate in client meetings.
  • Participate in construction administration activities including site visits and submittal reviews.
  • Mentor less experienced staff and contribute to project documents quality.
  • Promote design quality and proper material applications.

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position will have a design or technical focus and be a member of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with design and technical leadership. Under the direct supervision of designated project leadership, the primary responsibilities include the following:

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • With limited direction, assist Senior Interior Designer and/or Project Manager with the execution of project goals throughout all phases (Programming, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration).
  • Assist in the development of the design including planning and three-dimensional studies.
  • Independently assist in the design development and documentation of interior spaces to include drawings of floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, pattern designs, elevations, details, etc.
  • Provide support to the Senior Interior Designer with furniture, fixtures and equipment (FFE) selection, layout and specifications throughout all phases of interior design work, as required.
  • Produce drawings in conformance with project time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Identify, research and apply building and life safety codes to applicable interior design work.
  • Prepare renderings and other presentation materials.
  • Follow CannonDesign drawing standards.
  • Participate in client meetings with Senior Interior Designer to gain client interaction and presentation experience.
  • Participate in construction administration activities, including site visits, review of submittals and shop drawings, and conducting punch lists. Site visits frequently require a physical walk-through of site.
  • Mentor less experienced interior design staff and provide guidance in the development of project documents.
  • Actively participate and promote design quality.
  • Understand proper application of materials.
  • May perform other duties as required.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or relevant field required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
  • Current NCIDQ certification is preferred.
  • Must be able to participate in the development of projects' technical or design characteristics and content.
  • Strong creative design portfolio is essential as are strong communication, teamwork, presentation, graphics, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Revit, Enscape, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite required.
  • Travel as required.

The salary range for this position to be filled in our Chicago, IL office is $57,905 to $72,335 annually. This is the anticipated salary range at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on candidate's geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
