Job summary

Steinberg Hart is seeking a senior interior design leader to originate high-level design solutions for public, government, and Department of Defense projects in New York. You will coordinate with large project teams, develop space plans and FF&E details, and ensure documentation aligns with design intent and BIM standards.

The role emphasizes mentorship of junior staff, collaboration with Interiors Principal, and active involvement in business development while advancing sustainable materials

Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of experience in the design and documentation of interiors projects
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • NCIDQ Certification with strong grasp of ADA and life safety requirements
  • LEED or WELL accreditation preferred
  • Experience in interior design, documentation and detailing on every phase of a project
  • Experience with public sector projects including state & local government facilities and Department of Defense work preferred
  • Knowledge of highly sustainable practices and industry standards
  • Excellent graphic, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of FF&E, color, and materials
  • Knowledge of furniture systems and specifications
  • Knowledge of a design-build process a plus
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software
  • Building Information Modeling: Revit; including firm grasp of collaborative tools such as R360
  • Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Enscape and AutoCAD a plus

  • Attend project and department meetings and manage meeting minutes distribution.
  • Maintain BIM standards and ensure construction documents align with design intent.

Job description

Overall Responsibilities

Develop design for Public, Government, and Department of Defense projects. Bring self-motivation and strong design skills through all stages of programming, concept, design, and documentation and take initiative to drive great design. Support the firm culture of design excellence within teams as well as firmwide interior design efforts and client presentations.

Design Leadership
  • Originate innovative high-level design solutions to complex problems and coordinate with the larger project teams through the development and presentation of these ideas.
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects, including large, complex government facilities.
  • Work closely with the Interiors Principal and Senior Staff to support internal business development efforts.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the principles of construction documentation to assist in producing contract and proposal documents.
  • Prepares and develops space plans, furniture plans, elevations, sections, interiors details, FF&E cost estimates, FF&E schedules, SID binders, FF&E binders, technical specifications, best value determination (BVD) documentation, 3D conceptual views and finished design presentation documentation for all design phases of a project in accordance with specifications and project schedule.
  • Attends project team meetings and department staff meetings and oversees the development and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Operate with a service-focused mindset with external clients and colleagues. Dedicated to meeting client requirements, expectations, and budget.
  • Work closely with the Project Architects and Senior Staff to ensure that construction documents are consistent with design intent and meet the firm’s BIM standards.
  • Commitment to advance the firm’s stance in the use of ethical and highly sustainable materials.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • General familiarity of project finances and appropriate balancing of scope, project tasks, and fee, including assistance in the staffing of each project.
  • Mentor junior interior design staff to support their development and growth.
