Job summary

Barber McMurry seeks an experienced commercial interior designer to join our Knoxville studio. Successful candidates will be passionate about excellence and have demonstrated experience in high-crafted commercial design, collaborating across teams to shape thoughtful interiors.

You will lead design from concept through documentation, coordinate finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and millwork, and present to clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
  • 4-8 years of experience high-crafted commercial interior design.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with procurement best practices.
  • Ability to sketch, digitally or by hand.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interior design of commercial projects at various scales, working closely with project team, to develop and execute our vision for thoughtful, crafted interiors.
  • Coordinate finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and custom millwork; coordinate with consultants
  • Lead client-facing presentations; participate in project meetings
  • Manage furniture procurement
  • Actively contribute to internal & external design dialogue

Job description

Barber McMurry seeks an experienced commercial interior designer to join our studio. Successful candidates will be passionate about excellence and have demonstrated experience in high-crafted commercial design. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, have stellar communication skills, and will adore collaboration in a culture that prioritizes curiosity and creative intensity.

Position Responsibilities:

Will lead interior design of commercial projects at various scales, working closely with project team, to develop and execute our vision for thoughtful, crafted interiors. Candidate must be comfortable collaborating with a team, working on multiple projects simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines & budgets.

  • Lead conceptualization and documentation of interior design in project model
  • Coordinate finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and custom millwork; coordinate with consultants
  • Lead client-facing presentations; participate in project meetings
  • Manage furniture procurement
  • Actively contribute to internal & external design dialogue
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture

4-8 years of experience high-crafted commercial interior design

Proficiency in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite & Microsoft Office

Familiarity with procurement best practices

Ability to sketch, digitally or by hand

Preferred Qualifications:

NCIDQ Certified or currently pursuing certification

Sustainable certification (LFA, WELL, LEED) or experience with sustainable design

Experience with SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, etc.

Experienced in presentations & client interactions

Salary & Benefits:

Salary range is dependent upon experience and qualifications. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) with employer match, 3 weeks of PTO, additional paid bereavement leave, paid parental leave, and flexible scheduling and remote work days. This is a full-time, in-office position.
