Job summary

BDO is seeking an Interim / Interim to Hire Controller (SEC & IPO Readiness) in Houston, TX. You will support multiple clients across accounting and finance functions, serving as Controller or Project Leader on diverse engagements.

The role requires extensive accounting experience, ERP proficiency (NetSuite/QuickBooks/SAP), advanced Excel skills, and the ability to manage stakeholders, lead month-/quarter-/year-end closes, and assist with SEC reporting and IPO readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Accounting preferred.
• Ten or more years accounting experience required.
• ERP experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks or SAP required.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• MS Excel at an advanced level preferred.
• CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as Controller, CFO, or Project Leader for clients.
• Manages multiple client stakeholders effectively.
• Prepares and reviews miscellaneous accounting reports.
• Leads ad hoc projects and initiatives.
• Oversees month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
• Performs due diligence procedures for clients.
• Assists clients with SEC reporting.
• Implements new accounting pronouncements (ASC606/ASC842).
• Ensures accuracy and correct technical approach in work.
• Documents processes and drives process improvements.
• Identifies opportunities to offer additional BDO services.
• Other duties as required.

Job Description

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for supporting clients with various tasks within the accounting and finance functions. This role is project based and will work with a variety of clients.

Job Duties:

• Functions in various capacities including Controller, CFO, or Project Leader for clients
• Demonstrates an ability to manage multiple client stakeholders simultaneously
• Prepares miscellaneous accounting reports
• Participates and leads various ad hoc projects
• Oversees all aspects of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing
• Demonstrates an ability to perform due diligence procedures for clients
• Assists clients with SEC Reporting
• Resolves complex accounting issues, and assist clients with implementation of new accounting pronouncements including ASC606 and ASC842
• Ensures work is accurate and follows the correct technical approach
• Creates and documents processes as well as suggests and implements process improvements
• Recognizes and offers additional appropriate BDO services to clients
• Other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree, required; focus in Accounting, preferred

Experience:

• Ten (10) or more years accounting related experience, required
• Experience working with public, private or private equity companies, required
• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks or SAP, required
• Professional services industry experience, preferred
• Public Accounting experience, preferred
• Experience with MS Excel at advanced level, preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

• CPA, preferred

Software:

• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook, required

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

• Illinois Range: $85.00/hr - $95.00/hr
• Maryland Range: $85.00/hr - $95.00/hr
• Minnesota Range: $85.00/hr - $95.00/hr
• NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $85.00/hr - $95.00/hr
• Washington Range: $85.00/hr - $95.00/hr
• Washington DC Range: $85.00/hr - $95.00/hr
