The New York Times Company is seeking a paid Summer 2027 software engineering intern to contribute to tools used by NYT journalists and readers. The role blends newsroom context with technology work, focusing on software development rather than writing or graphics production.
The 10-week program begins June 7, 2027, with a hybrid NYC-based layout, requiring in-office presence at least 3 days per week. The position offers mentorship, housing support guidance, and opportunities to impact reporting
The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It's why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It's why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it's why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it's worth paying for.
We're looking for a paid summer 2027 intern to contribute to software used by hundreds of NYT journalists and projects that serve millions of readers. Our unique position between the newsroom and technology departments makes us instrumental to The Times' most ambitious digital journalism.
This role is focused on software engineering in a newsroom environment. Daily work will be on a software development project team. Interns often have opportunities to contribute to opportunistic data or document journalism using our tools, but the core work is not writing stories or producing graphics.
