Job summary

Kuinerrarmiut Elitnaurviat in Quinhagak, Alaska, seeks an Intensive Needs Aide I to support intensive needs students under the teacher's supervision.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, bilingual Yup’ik and English preferred, and the ability to work with students with special needs in a rural Alaskan setting. It is a part-time role with hourly pay of $23.57 to $27.52, plus mandatory yearly training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
  • Experience with special needs students in a school setting preferred.
  • Ability to carry out instructional activities with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to participate in future training programs as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and reports.
  • Mandatory 6 hours of yearly training as required by State Law.
  • Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the teacher, prepares for activities related to specific students’ needs.
  • Works with specific students to present and reinforce lessons planned by the teacher.
  • Sets up and operates equipment required by specific students.
  • Assists students with everyday life skills.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work of specific students.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as they relate to the specific student.
  • Assists with the supervision of the students during lunch periods, assemblies, play periods, and on field trips.
  • Alerts the teacher of any problem or special information about the individual students.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and fellow employees as is expected of teachers.
  • Maintains a sense of responsibility and positive attitude toward students and fellow employees.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
