Job summary

Orlando Health South Lake Hospital in Clermont, FL is seeking a Senior Nurse Intern to join the Intensive Care Unit on the Night shift. The role supports licensed nurses, provides routine treatments, and assists with patient care under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine treatments and interventions within the educational scope and demonstrated competency.
  • Performs advanced skills after demonstrated competencies (e.g., wound care, suctioning, NG/PEG management).
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutrition needs.
  • Maintains safety, privacy, and confidentiality of patients and families.
  • Communicates patient information to the RN and the healthcare team and participates in handoffs.

Responsibilities
  • Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
  • Performs advanced skills after achieving demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care.
  • Does increased or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients as assigned and utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist during staff changes or transfer of care for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Ensures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
  • Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participates in handoff report and conducts purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
  • Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
  • Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Also transports Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment.
  • Provides exceptional service and care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products, and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Enrolled in an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program and preparing to enter the final two semesters or quarter of the appliable nursing program.
  • Completed Senior Nurse Intern competencies.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.

Experience

  • None, must be in your 3rd semester of Nursing School to qualify.
