Job summary

The GEO Group is hiring for an Intelligence Lieutenant to supervise coordination efforts in investigations and intelligence gathering operations, focusing on security threat groups. It provides intelligence information to the contracting agency and facility management as required.

Primary duties include overseeing intelligence collection, tracking threat activities, and assisting in policy development for custody, security, and monitoring.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of detention officer experience and 2 years of successful field supervision experience.
  • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences or related field preferred.
  • Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command respect and manage stress.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee collection of intelligence and information on activities of suspected security threat groups.
  • Identify and track suspected and actual threat group activities and provide information to contracting agency.
  • Assist in development and implementation of policies for custody, security, and detainee/treatment monitoring.
  • Respond to major unusual occurrences and provide support to detainees/inmates as trained.
  • Promote a positive environment and develop staff through training and supervision.
  • Direct the work of other employees, including hiring, evaluating performance, and disciplinary actions.

Summary:

The Intelligence Lieutenant supervises coordination efforts in investigations and intelligence gathering operations pertaining particularly security threat groups. Provides intelligence information to the contracting agency and facility management as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the collection of intelligence and information regarding activities of suspected security threat groups at the facility. Provide significant input into the facility response to identify the security threat of group activities.
  • Identify and track suspected and actual gang or security threat group activities at the facility. Record and furnish information as required by the contracting agency regarding special threat group activities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees/inmates as they pertain to investigations and telephone call monitoring.
  • Respond to major unusual occurrences as trained. Facilitate prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates in the event of injury, illness or emotional trauma.
  • Promote an atmosphere conducive to personality and character development of detainees/inmates and staff through the encouragement of favorable behavior patterns, arrangement of physical facilities, and influencing relationships among detainees/inmates.
  • Direct the work of other employees. This includes selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training/development, promoting and any disciplinary action, including termination.
  • Make assignments, reviews post orders and assures that all procedures including emergency procedures are in place and staff is trained in proper implementation.
  • Review disciplinary matters concerning both staff and detainees.
  • Review staff effectiveness and conducts frequent physical inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Give primary guidance on situational problems, making referrals for more complex problems.
  • Develop and deliver training to staff pertaining to investigations and telephone call monitoring.
  • May conduct special investigations as assigned by management or the contracting agency.
  • May perform as liaison with contracting agency, state or local law enforcement agencies to facilitate their investigations.
  • May participate in contracting agency special threat identification and tracking programs.
  • Respond to major institution unusual occurrences as trained.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED certification required.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a detention officer and two (2) years of successful experience in field supervision (e.g., civilian community law enforcement, commercial or industrial guard service, or security service supervisory positions.). The two (2) year requirement may be satisfied by completion of a career development program that includes work-related experience, training, or college credits at a level of achievement equivalent to the basic requirement, as practiced in the federal hiring process.
  • College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred.
  • Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence of detainees or inmates and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
