Job summary

A global battery manufacturing company is seeking a skilled legal professional specializing in intellectual property law to provide strategic advice in patent prosecution, litigation, and management. This full-time position requires a J.D. degree with 2 to 5 years of experience, preferably within the battery or electric vehicle sectors. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and outside attorneys, ensuring compliance with all legal standards while contributing to the innovation process. Qualifications

2 to 5 years of law firm or in-house experience, preferably in Battery/Electric Vehicle/Chemistry.
Registered to practice before the USPTO preferred.

Responsibilities

Identify new inventions and manage outside attorneys for U.S. patent applications.
Respond to USPTO office actions and PTAB proceedings.
Review and draft agreements for IP transactions and R&D projects.
Provide IP-related support and training to U.S. affiliates.
Work with in-house members and outside attorneys.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. (LGESMI) develops and manufactures large lithium ion polymer batteries and packs for electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage system (ESS) applications. LGESMI is a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Energy Solution, a South Korean company that has global operations focused on battery R&D and manufacturing for EV and ESS applications. LG Energy Solution is part of the LG Group.

Summary

Provide strategic advice and work product on all facets of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution, patent litigation and enforcement, freedom to operate, trademark registration, trade secret management, and draft/review of IP contracts.

Responsibilities

Identify new inventions and manage outside attorneys in prosecution of U.S. patent applications
Respond to USPTO office actions and PTAB proceedings
Review and draft agreements for IP transactions, R&D projects and commercial contracts with IP terms
Provide general IP-related support and training to members of LG Energy Solution and its affiliates in the U.S.
Work closely with other in-house members and outside attorneys to accomplish assigned tasks and goals
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

J.D. degree or equivalent and admission to at least one state bar
2 to 5 years of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably in the Battery/Electric Vehicle/Chemistry field
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or similar disciplines preferred
Registered to practice before the USPTO preferred
