Job summary

GE Vernova, Inc. is seeking an Integrated Solutions Applications Engineer to design and derisk integration of complex power systems for data center and large hybrid applications.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, develop reference architectures, and interface with utilities and ISOs to ensure compliance and deliver world-class outcomes. The role requires a strong technical background in heavy-duty turbines, experience across gas turbines and combined-cycle plants, and the ability to travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or power systems engineering.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in engineering, product management or related functions.
  • 3+ years of experience completing projects on-time and on-budget as either individual contributor or project manager.
  • 3+ years of experience with gas turbine, combined-cycle, or turbomachinery application engineering experience, with strong understanding of equipment performance and operating capabilities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to perform coordination studies and requirements testing for the entire power system with internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate deep technical understanding of heavy duty or aeroderivative turbines to inform design and optimization decisions.
  • Standardize solutions by developing reference architectures for repeatable applications and applying them to projects for consistency.
  • Interface with utilities and ISOs to ensure compliance with industry standards and grid interconnection requirements.

As part of an experienced team of consultants, the Integrated Solutions Applications Engineer will develop solutions and derisk integration of complex power systems such as data center applications and large hybrid electrical systems. We are looking for an established self-driven leader who combines strong technical understanding and business development skills with a track record of delivering world-class services and outcomes for clients.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Designing and owning the integrated solutions architecture, including the development and maintenance of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) that integrate with various GE Vernova systems, such as electrical subsystems, gas power turbines, Energy Management Systems (EMS), battery energy storage, and grid hardware and software.
  • Evaluating and proposing design architectures on an application-specific basis, considering factors such as system performance, and reliability by performing studies and simulations to validate the system’s response and performance.
  • Defining equipment LCOE and operational interfaces with the business units. Translating the customer reliability requirements to all internal parties and supporting with studies on LCOE and reliability analysis.
  • Lead onsite generation report definition and gather necessary information to support customer meetings and final report submittal.
  • Lead business unit coordinator for on-going customer projects and proposals.
  • Supporting & Leading cross-functional efforts to perform coordination studies and requirements testing for the entire power system, working closely with internal stakeholders within Consulting Services and across GE Vernova’s business units, including those in engineering, sales, and product development, to drive the growth of GE Vernova's power systems capabilities.
  • Deep technical understanding of heavy duty or aeroderivative turbines, with the ability to support and interpret these studies to inform system design and optimization decisions.
  • Standardizing solutions by developing reference architectures to certain repeatable applications and subsequently applying those architectures to customer projects ensuring consistency and best practices across all power systems initiatives.
  • Interface with external stakeholders, including utilities and Independent System Operators (ISOs), to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, and to identify opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Understanding grid interconnection requirements or experience with grid connected applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in mechanical, electrical or power systems engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in engineering, product management or related functions.
  • 3+ years of experience completing projects on-time and on-budget as either individual contributor or project manager.
  • 3+ years of experience with gas turbine, combined-cycle, or turbomachinery application engineering experience, with strong understanding of equipment performance and operating capabilities, including ramp rates, black-start options, emissions, and available upgrades or design options to improve heat rate, output, and overall plant capability.
  • Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 25% of the time, as required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong proven analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams to high value technical solutions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for making presentations to internal and external business executives.
  • Solid understanding of government structures and players, global energy policy, worldwide power system codes and standards, power market structures, macroeconomic impact of regulatory reform.
  • Advanced degree in mechanical, electrical, or power systems engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and influence individuals and teams
  • General understanding of power systems, controls phenomena including: steady state flow, voltage stability, , least-cost generation planning and operation, controls coordination (Mark IVE or other).General understanding of technical regulatory standards and grid code compliance evaluation, testing and reporting
  • Preferred General understanding of power systems equipment: generation, load smoothing & storage, transmission, distribution and industrial. Specifically, BESS, Solid state transformers, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, arresters, shunt and series applications of capacitors, synchronous condensers, HVDC, power electronic converters for renewable energy (wind and solar) and industrial applications.
  • Preferred General understanding of controls concepts for grid-interactive power systems equipment, e.g.: automatic voltage regulators, power system stabilizers, frequency response and load controls, stability controls for weak systems and plant regulator coordination, FACTS, HVDC and awareness of technology trends in power equipment.
  • Preferred understanding of loadflow, dynamic stability and/orproduction simulation modeling concepts, applications and validation.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
