Job description

McCormick Law & Consulting is a growing law firm that serves clients through three brands, each focused on a different kind of client need:

  • McCormick Law & Consulting is our core practice, helping businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations with business formation and contracts, real estate matters, nonprofit formation and mergers & acquisitions, and more.
  • Driving Defense Law is a specialized division that represents drivers facing traffic charges, in VA and NC, from speeding tickets to reckless driving and DUI/DWI charges.
  • Med Contract Law is a specialized division that helps physicians and other healthcare professionals review and negotiate employment contracts nationwide. This division also assists with partnership agreements and mergers and acquisitions of medical practices.

Across all three brands, we're a collaborative team. We welcome ideas from everyone regardless of role or tenure, and we regularly put good suggestions into practice. We're looking for people who take ownership, keep learning, and want to help shape how the firm grows.

About the Role

This is a sales position. You will own the path from first inquiry to signed engagement, and your success will be measured by results: how quickly you respond, how consistently you follow up, and how many prospective clients become clients.

You’ll be the first voice people hear when they contact us, often during a stressful moment in their lives. Your job is to listen, understand what they need, explain how the firm operates, address their concerns, and guide them to the decision to retain the firm. For select brands, you’ll also lead initial intake calls with prospective clients and own the entire sales process. Attorneys provide all legal advice; you make sure the right people become clients and have a great experience getting to that point.

What You’ll Do

Respond to and convert leads

  • Respond fast. Monitor and respond to inquiries by phone, email, chat, and web form, and set clear next steps on every contact.
  • Run sales conversations. Learn the prospective client's situation, explain our services and fees, answer questions and concerns, and ask for the engagement.
  • Lead intake calls. For select brands, gather the facts of the matter, present how the firm operates, and guide the prospective client to a decision.
  • Close the engagement. Send engagement agreements and payment links, and guide new clients through e-signature and payment until the engagement is complete.
  • Follow up consistently. Stay in touch by phone, email, text, and chat to answer questions and help prospective clients take the next step.
  • Re‑engage stalled leads. Work older leads and missed opportunities to bring them back into the pipeline.
  • Own your pipeline. Keep every lead at a clear status with a defined next step so no one falls through the cracks.
  • Track your results. Monitor your response times, contact rates, and conversion rates, and work toward agreed performance goals.
Onboard clients and maintain records
  • Run conflict checks. Complete conflict checks before substantive details are gathered and before any engagement.
  • Keep records accurate. Maintain client records and log all follow-up activity in our CRM.
  • Protect confidentiality. Handle all prospective client information as confidential.
Improve how we work
  • Shape the process. Participate in regular intake meetings, bring ideas to improve our systems and processes, and help put the best ones into practice.
  • Collaborate. Work with attorneys, paralegals, marketing, and IT to deliver a smooth client experience.
Your First 60 Days at McCormick Law & Consulting
  • Days 1 to 30: Learn and ramp up. Learn our brands, practice areas, and intake process. Train on Clio Grow and conflict checks, shadow intake calls, handle inbound leads with support, and take ownership of the follow-up queue by the end of the month.
  • Days 31 to 60: Run the pipeline. Lead intake calls for select brands, re‑engage stalled leads, and own the pipeline from first inquiry to signed engagement. Track your response times and results, meet agreed performance goals, and propose at least one improvement to our intake process.
Requirements
  • 1+ year in sales with pipeline and follow-up responsibility and measurable results (inside sales, business development, or high-volume intake).
  • Experience converting leads by phone, including answering concerns and asking for a decision.
  • Experience keeping accurate records in a CRM.
  • Clear, professional writing for email, text, and chat.
  • Strong technology skills and comfort learning new tools quickly. You should be confident working across multiple systems at once, such as a CRM, phone system, email, chat, e-signature, calendar, and AI tools, and be able to troubleshoot basic issues on your own. Experience using AI tools (such as Claude, VLex) is required.
  • Based in the Eastern Time Zone, with availability to work during our business hours.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
  • Legal intake experience, especially criminal or traffic defense.
  • Experience with Clio Grow and/or Manage.
  • Experience leading consultations or sales meetings.
What We Offer
  • Pay. $18 to $22 per hour, based on experience.
  • Performance bonus. Quarterly bonus(es) based on conversion rates and other performance metrics.
  • Health and financial benefits. Health, dental, and vision insurance, disability coverage, and IRA match
  • Time off. 10 days of PTO plus paid holidays.
  • Remote work. Work from home anywhere in the Eastern Time Zone, with occasional in-person events and meetings at our Norfolk, VA office. Preference given to candidates in Virginia and North Carolina.
