Job summary

The Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orlando seeks an Intake Attorney with a minimum of 5 years of criminal litigation experience, including extensive trial work, to join a fast-paced team handling high-volume cases for county and circuit court.

Responsibilities include reviewing postconviction motions, drafting responses, conducting evidentiary hearings, researching issues, and coordinating with court personnel to manage caseloads under pressure.

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Florida Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years criminal litigation experience.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office and case management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to postconviction motions with claims such as ineffective assistance of counsel, illegal sentences, newly discovered evidence, involuntary pleas, and postconviction DNA testing requests.
  • Drafts detailed written responses to postconviction motions with accurate legal analysis.
  • Conducts evidentiary hearings on postconviction claims, examining witnesses and presenting oral argument.
  • Performs extensive legal research to evaluate postconviction issues and support advocacy.
  • Reviews court transcripts and related documents to assess postconviction claims and prepare responses.
  • Collaborates with attorneys and court personnel to manage caseloads and ensure timely resolution.
  • Must work under pressure in courtroom and outside.
