Job summary

AMS Staffing, Inc. seeks an Insurance Defense Litigation Associate with 2–4 years of civil litigation experience to join its Roanoke office.

The attorney will handle defense matters across general insurance, workers’ compensation, and property insurance, managing cases from investigation through trial preparation. The role requires a Virginia Bar license and the ability to work collaboratively with carriers, clients, and fellow attorneys in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of civil litigation experience, preferably involving insurance defense.
• Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and substantive legal correspondence.
• Active Virginia Bar license required.
• Experience handling insurance defense, workers’ compensation defense, or property insurance defense.

Responsibilities

• Represent insurance carriers, businesses, and other clients in civil litigation and insurance defense matters.
• Handle matters involving general insurance defense, workers’ compensation, and property insurance claims.
• Manage cases from initial investigation through discovery, motions practice, settlement, and trial preparation.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other litigation documents.
• Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
• Conduct legal research and prepare case evaluations and litigation strategies.
• Attend hearings, mediations, depositions, and court proceedings.
• Work directly with insurance carriers and clients regarding case strategy, exposure, and resolution.
• Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution.
• Maintain responsibility for deadlines, case files, and client reporting requirements.
