Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking an experienced insurance defense attorney to take ownership of cases in our Manhattan office. You will manage matters from inception through resolution, handling premises liability, auto liability, and general liability defense for established clients.

Active New York State Bar admission and 2+ years of relevant defense litigation experience are required. The role offers strong courtroom exposure, collaboration with a seasoned team, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Active New York State Bar admission required.
• 2+ years of relevant insurance defense litigation experience required.
• Experience with premises liability defense, auto accident defense, general liability, or similar civil defense matters.
• Strong legal writing, research, deposition, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to independently manage deadlines and an active litigation caseload.
• Strong client communication, organization, and professional judgment.
• In-house and solo practice backgrounds are welcome when accompanied by directly relevant defense litigation experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage insurance defense and civil litigation matters from initial assignment through resolution.
• Defend insurers, policyholders, and corporate clients in premises liability, auto liability, general liability, and related matters.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct and defend depositions, EBTs, witness interviews, and discovery proceedings.
• Appear in New York courts for conferences, hearings, motions, and other proceedings.
• Analyze liability, damages, coverage issues, and litigation strategy.
• Negotiate settlements and communicate directly with carriers, adjusters, clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
• Perform legal research and provide practical case assessments and recommendations.
• Independently move cases forward while collaborating with attorneys and support professionals.

Location:

New York, NY. This is primarily an on-site position in our Manhattan office, with potential hybrid flexibility for the right candidate. Candidates must be willing and able to commute regularly to Lower Manhattan.

Note:

Candidates must be actively licensed to practice law in New York and have 2+ years of directly relevant experience in insurance defense, premises liability defense, auto accident defense, or closely related civil defense litigation.
