The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of medical insurance and billing experience; hospital or ambulatory care experience is preferred. Strong attention to detail and communication are essential to coordinate authorizations and patient scheduling.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of medical insurance and billing experience required.
• Previous physician office or ambulatory experience preferred.
• High school education or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Secures insurance authorization for outpatient services, diagnostic testing, consultations and procedures.
• Schedules appointments and procedures, verifies appointments, and processes medical documentation.
• Coordinates gathering and submission of insurance information from clinical staff.
• Escalates authorization issues and coordinates peer-to-peer reviews.
• Communicates managed care requests with the clinical team through established workflows.
• Maintains accurate records of insurance notes and authorizations.
• Answers phones, routes calls, takes messages, and relays information to staff.
• Follows up with patients for return visits, missed appointments and cancellations.
