Job summary

TIC - The Industrial Company is seeking an entry-level craftsperson to assist in insulation and sheet metal work. You will learn to read blueprints, move materials, and set up work sites while applying insulation and protective coverings under supervision.

The role requires operating hand and power tools, following safety practices, and performing tasks in a construction/industrial setting with varying outdoor conditions. A high school diploma or equivalent is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; experience preferred in construction or related field.
• Ability to read and interpret written instructions and communicate effectively with supervision.
• Field experience in craft discipline and knowledge of safe tool use.

Responsibilities

• Learn to read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and plan work activities.
• Move materials and equipment to work locations and set up the site.
• Seal or finish insulated surfaces and protect insulation as required.
• Fit insulation around obstructions and shape insulating materials.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes to protect insulation from weather or damage.
• Secure insulation with plastic covers, canvas, sealant, or tape.
• Follow hazardous waste handling guidelines.

Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and will work under immediate supervision. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Learn to reads and interprets blue prints, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities.
• Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site.
• Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
• Learn to fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
• Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
• Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.

Requirements

• The person in this position needs to constantly move about a construction/industrial site, so should be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Constantly works in a construction environment and will be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
• Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
• May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet), so must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
• Move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• May be required/able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site
• Must have all required tools
• U.S. Driver's License may be required
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, perform other duties as required
• Ability to pass pre-access drug, alcohol and fit-for-duty testing
