Job summary

EDG Inc. seeks an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to join a project team designing and delivering control systems for industrial facilities. You will review client specifications, develop instrument datasheets, and size PLC/controllers, documenting loop sheets and C&E matrices.

Travel to offshore/onshore sites may be required as projects demand. The role requires 5–10 years in instrumentation and knowledge of major vendors (ABB, Siemens, Yokogawa, Honeywell) and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical or Instrument Engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience in instrumentation and controls for industrial facilities.
• Familiar with control philosophy and control logic development.
• Experience with vendor packages and I/O lists is preferred.
• Ability to travel domestically/internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Control System Philosophy and Narrative documents.
• Prepare instrument datasheets.
• Perform instrumentation cable sizing calculations and selection.
• Size PLC controllers and I/O cards, switches, relays, and terminal blocks.
• Prepare and review test and commissioning procedures.
• Create wiring/lay-out drawings and I/O lists.

• Support procurement with equipment specs and BOM/MTO.
• Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.

Job Summary

The Instrumentation Engineer will work with a team of engineers, drafters, and other disciplines to ensure the integrated design deliverables meet project requirements. This will include reviewing and understanding client provided specifications and all applicable codes and standards .

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Preparation of Control System Philosophy and Narrative documents;
• Preparation of instrument datasheets;
• Perform instrumentation cable sizing calculations andselection;
• Sizing of primary control system elements such as PLC controllers, digital/analog input and output cards, switches, relays/contactors, and terminal blocks;
• Preparation and review of test and commissioningprocedures;
• Work with the instrumentation design team in preparing construction drawings depicting wiring, tray layouts, process connections, andsupports;
• Preparation of loop sheets, junction box layouts, control panel layouts, I/O Lists, Cause & EffectMatrices
• Review and checking of vendorpackages;
• Preparation of fabrication, construction, and installationdetails;
• Preparation of design, bid and constructionpackages
• Provide engineering specifications and support to procurement of equipment, skidded packages, control systems andbuildings;
• Participate in cost estimate tasks such as developing Bill Of Materials (BOM) and Material Take Off(MTO);
• Participate in pre-commissioning, and commissioningactivities;
• Participate in factory acceptance testing of packaged equipment andsystems;
• International and domestic travel may berequired .

Qualifications, Knowledges, Skills And Abilities

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Instrument Engineeringrequired;
• Five (5) to ten (10) years’ experience with the design and implementation of instrumentation andcontrols systems for industrial facilities, oil and gas industry, onshore gas processing, hydrocarbon storage and transportation, chemical manufacturing or refining;
• Knowledge of Control Philosophy and Control Logicdevelopment;
• Must be familiar with control and safety systems such as Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Yokogawa, ABB, Siemens, orHoneywell;
• Experience with preparing instrument indexes, I/O lists, etc.required;
• Knowledge and experience with appropriate portions of ANSI/NEMA/NFPA/API/UL/ISA/IEEE/IEC codes and standards;
• Ability to work within project centered multi-disciplineteams;
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple workscopes;
• Advance technical writing skills with the ability to effectively verbalize technicalinformation;
• Basic Microsoft Office skills with proficiency in Excelrequired;
• Requires the ability and availability to work overtime and the ability to travel to offsite (including offshore) locations (may require multi-daytrips);
• Ability to interact with staff at alllevels.
• Experience in an Electrical Engineering role including electrical design with regard to power generation, distribution, protection and related controls systems is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• P.E. license preferred;
• Experience working in hazard analysis teams (HAZOP, HAZAN, HAZID)preferred;
• Experience in the use and application of IEC 61511 for Safety Systems preferred.

Working Conditions

• Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private office) but may require occasional travel to off-site work locations;
• Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and clientpersonnel; Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
• May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
• May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
