Job summary

Southern Company Services – Technical Projects & Solutions, Engineering Electrical & Instrumentation Design, is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer/Designer for power generation systems at The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL. Hybrid work with four days in-office and one day telecommute.

You will lead detailed design of process instrumentation and controls at Southern Company facilities, produce drawings and specifications, support field installation, and coordinate with vendors and other

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required (Engineer level).
• Advanced degree is a plus.
• Professional PE license desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop instrumentation design documents for power generation facilities.
• Provide technical direction and oversite.
• Assist in evaluating and purchasing instrumentation equipment.
• Prepare material take-offs for cost estimates and procurement.
• Review vendor design documents for conformance to design requirements.
• Coordinate work with other disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
• Provide on-site support during construction, startup, and checkout.
• Develop scope definition documents and estimates.
• Provide schedule inputs.
