Description

The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of all electrical and control systems at the ORC plants and brine gathering system. The I&E Technician will be responsible for performing installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of plant and gathering instrumentation, controls, and electrical distribution systems to ensure optimal plant and gathering performance and regulatory compliance. This is a hands-on, field-based role that requires a high degree of technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence. This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.

This position follows a Monday-Friday (5/2) schedule but requires availability for emergency call-outs after hours, on weekends, or holidays in support of around-the-clock power generation.

Responsibilities
  • Instrumentation & Control Systems: Install, maintain, and calibrate instrumentation including pressure transmitters, flow meters, level sensors, temperature sensors, vibration monitors, and analytical devices. Troubleshoot and repair control loops, signal issues, and PLC-based systems to ensure system accuracy and responsiveness. Support commissioning and startup of new instrumentation and process control systems.
  • Electrical Systems: Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on medium and low voltage electrical systems, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, motor controls, transformers, and grounding systems. Troubleshoot electrical faults, conduct motor testing, and ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and site-specific standards. Assist with electrical isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and energization procedures.
  • Operational Support: Respond to equipment failures, alarms, or system upsets in collaboration with operations and engineering teams. Support routine and unplanned outages, plant turnarounds, and project execution. Maintain detailed maintenance records, logs, and work order documentation using CMMS software.
  • Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement: Adhere to all plant safety procedures and electrical safe work practices; ensure proper PPE and hazard mitigation protocols are followed. Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives for plant reliability and performance. Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and audits as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in electrical, instrumentation, or industrial technology preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience in an industrial, power generation, or process plant environment. Experience with SCADA, PLC, or DCS-based systems and troubleshooting of control logic strongly preferred. Experience working with 480V and below electrical systems required; familiarity with medium-voltage (up to 13.8kV) a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and control system documentation. Skilled in the use of test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, loop calibrators, and communication testers. Familiarity with CMMS platforms (e.g., eMaint, Maximo, SAP) for maintenance tracking and reporting.
  • Schedule & Availability: Must be able to work a standard Monday-Friday (5/2) schedule at Cape Station. Must be available to respond to after-hours and weekend emergency call-outs to support plant reliability and safety. Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in confined spaces or at heights as needed.
  • Preferred Certifications: OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, or ISA/EPRI technician certifications. Arc flash training and electrical safety credentials are a plus.
Location

This position is based at Cape Station, Fervo Energy's premier geothermal power generation facility located in southwestern Utah. Cape Station is a remote, industrial site that operates 24/7 to deliver firm, zero-carbon energy to the grid. The I&E Technician will work a standard Monday-Friday (5/2) schedule, reporting to the site daily. However, due to the continuous nature of plant operations, the role also requires availability for emergency call-outs after hours, on weekends, and holidays, as needed to support plant reliability and response.

Fervo Energy commercializes technology to own, develop, and operate geothermal assets as the dispatchable foundation to a 100% clean energy future. As a 24/7, reliable clean energy resource, geothermal energy has a major role to play in the future electric grid and Fervo Energy's key innovations bring a full suite of modern technology to make geothermal cost competitive. Fervo's innovations include technologies such as advanced computational models, horizontal drilling, and distributed fiber optic sensing that we have developed with partners including Schlumberger, ARPA-E, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Fervo is supported through Cyclotron Road, the Department of Energy, Stanford University, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures.
