  • Experience with PLCs or data acquisition and control modules such as analog input/output and digital input/output.
  • Experience with instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow transducers, and Hall effect sensors.
  • Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, frequency generators, power supplies, and DMMs.
  • Experience with a programming language or framework such as Python, C++, or Arduino.
  • Experience with IT equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Experience with electrical connectors, control panel assembly, and soldering.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a large team and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Design, assemble, install, and maintain data acquisition and control systems for R&D and production.
  • Ensure the safe operation of data acquisition and control systems through standards and best practices.
  • Select and implement instrumentation for measurement parameters (accuracy, range, environmental).
  • Select and implement data acquisition and control modules (analog input/output, digital I/O, temperature).
  • Select and configure control panel parts (enclosures, connectors, terminal blocks, breakers).
  • Select and configure network components (routers, switches, firewalls) for secure communication.
  • Develop software for PCs and PLCs to provide test system control and data to operators.
  • Create and maintain documentation (wiring diagrams, BOMs, hardware/software descriptions).
  • Train staff in proper use of test systems.
  • Maintain good judgment in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Job Summary

This individual will work in DeltaHawk’s test department to design, assemble, install, and maintain data acquisition and control systems for R&D and production. These systems will test the proper operation of combustion engines and their individual components by controlling motors, valves, heaters, fans, and relays while measuring parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow rate, torque, and speed.

  • They ensure the safe operation of data acquisition and control systems through standards and best practices
  • They select and implement instrumentation for the required measurement parameters such as accuracy, range, environmental requirements, output signal type or communication protocol
  • They select and implement data acquisition and control modules such as analog input/output, digital input/output, and temperature to interface with the control and instrumentation devices based on parameters such as acquisition speed, resolution, range, power requirements, environmental requirements, and communication protocol
  • They select and implement control panel parts such as electrical enclosures, connectors, terminal blocks, and circuit breakers based on parameters such as size, power requirements, quantity and type of inputs and outputs, and environmental requirements
  • They select and configure network components such as routers, switches, and firewalls to provide secure and robust communication between system components, workstations, and test stations
  • They develop software for PC’s and PLC’s to provide test system control and data to operators using HMI’s and GUI applications
  • They create and maintain documentation such as wiring diagrams, bill of materials, hardware and software descriptions for each test system
  • They train staff on the proper use of the test systems
  • They maintain good judgment in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
Required Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical or Automation and Controls Engineering (or equivalent) and 3+ years of experience or 8+ years experience working with data acquisition and control systems
  • Experience with PID loop control
  • Experience with PLC’s or data acquisition and control modules such as analog input/output and digital input/output
  • Experience with instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow transducers, and Hall effect sensors
  • Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, frequency generators, power supplies, and DMM’s
  • Experience with a programming language or framework such as Python, C++, or Arduino
  • Experience with IT equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Experience with electrical connectors, control panel assembly, and soldering
  • Can work effectively within a team to leverage the strengths of others to achieve goals

Preferred Qualifications
  • Comfortable working with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks

This position works in a professional engineering environment combined with a “hands-on” environment including assisting technicians working through problems on and first implementation of designed assemblies.
