Job summary

SiTration, Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer to join our Watertown, MA team. The role focuses on developing and scaling electrified control systems for our critical minerals extraction technology, with full‑time, in‑person work in Watertown.

You will design low‑voltage control cabinets, program PLCs/HMIs, and create electrical documentation while collaborating with R&D, procurement, and external vendors. Knowledge of NFPA/NEC and safety analyses is desired.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical/Systems/Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• 5+ years of experience in instrumentation, control systems, or industrial automation.
• Experience with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens) and IEC 61131‑3 languages.
• Familiarity with low voltage (≤50 VDC, 120 VAC) wiring and control panels.
• Knowledge of electrical safety regulations and NFPA/NEC standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy first‑of‑its‑kind electrified control systems.
• Lead electrical documentation, wiring diagrams, P&ID development.
• Coordinate with R&D and external vendors for design and fabrication.
• Develop PLCs and HMIs to monitor and control pilot and commercial systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Travel up to 10% for on‑site commissioning.

SiTration is seeking an Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer to join our team and help scale our groundbreaking critical minerals extraction solution. SiTration is a rapidly-growing team of creative, passionate, and deeply-technical scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs working to develop a low-cost, sustainable approach for harvesting critical minerals. At the core of SiTration’s approach is a patented silicon filtration and extraction technology developed at MIT. This novel solution aims to transition resource-intensive chemical and thermal separations to an ultra-efficient electrified approach.

Founded out of MIT in 2020, SiTration’s operations are located in Watertown, MA. This position requires a full-time in-person commitment.

Responsibilities will include:

• Working closely with R&D and engineering teams to develop system requirements
• Lead the design, production, and deployment of first-of-a-kind electrified systems implementing our technology
• Design and build low voltage control system cabinets, specify components, lead procurement
• Develop and own electrical documentation, including network and wiring diagrams
• Establish and build in-house engineering capabilities, both teams and equipment
• Work with external vendors for design and fabrication as needed
• Create and maintain design and technical-file documentation
• Program and develop programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to monitor and control pilot and commercial systems
• Conduct design reviews for new and updated system designs
• Ensure compliance with all electrical safety regulations
• Travel up to 10% to provide on-site commissioning support for pilot to commercial-scale units

Desired experience and skills:

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar with 5+ years of experience. Title will be commensurate with experience
• Experience with industrial automation hardware, PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), analog and digital IO, and industrial network protocols
• Demonstrated mastery of programming and troubleshooting controllers in IEC 61131-3 designated languages, especially ladder logic programming
• Experience with low voltage wiring (e.g., <50 VDC, 120VAC)
• Comfortable troubleshooting electrical equipment and systems
• Experience with control-system cabinet layouts and design, P&ID and wiring diagram development
• Experience with Ignition SCADA systems
• Familiarity with UL508A and the NEC is a plus
• Familiarity with designing enclosures compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards
• Experience working with engineers of various backgrounds to develop effective and safe controls systems
• Experience with safety and hazard analysis (e.g., HAZOP, SWIFT) methodology
• Project management experience is a plus
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Willingness to be on-call and help troubleshoot during pilot system campaigns
