Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in the United States is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls engineer to lead the development of P&ID, instrument selection, and control panel layouts.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with other disciplines for cohesive design, develop PLC/HMI software, and support onsite startups and commissioning across global projects. This role offers opportunities to travel, engage with clients, and contribute to design-build projects while growing

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software.
  • Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation and controls.
  • Familiarity with onsite startup operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of P&IDs, control narratives, specs, drawings, and instrument selection.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for cohesive design.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth locally and globally.
  • Develop control system software in PLCs and HMIs; perform startups and commissioning.
  • Review submittals, conduct site evaluations, and advise on upgrades; travel as needed.

  • Using your experience, you'll lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection.
  • You’ll coordinate with other engineering disciplines for a cohesive design.
  • You’ll contribute to the development and growth of people (e.g., mentoring junior engineers) both domestically and globally.
  • You’ll be able to develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers and Human Machine Interfaces, and perform facility startups and commissioning activities.
  • You will have the opportunity to review construction submittals, conduct site evaluations, make recommendations for control system upgrades, and communicate effectively with clients and management, enhancing your professional network and experience as you travel.

The base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 to $163,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
