Job summary

Tesla Infrastructure is seeking Instrumentation and Controls Designers to take process and manufacturing I&C from concept through construction. You will own drawings, models, and panel packs for installation, including instrument location plans, loop diagrams, and I/O documentation, with field walks and cross-discipline collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Produce I&C construction deliverables, including instrument location plans, loop diagrams, hook-up typicals, junction-box layouts, I/O lists, instrument index, and cable schedules
• Design control panels, RIO / marshalling cabinets, and enclosure layouts and wiring in EPLAN (Electric P8 and/or Pro Panel)
• Model instrumentation, instrument stands, junction boxes, control panels, and related I&C equipment in Revit to support 3D coordination
• Produce detailed 2D construction drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit for installation, wiring, and commissioning
• Manage I&C models and CAD files in BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC); identify clashes with process, piping, electrical, and structural models and close them with the modeling teams
• Coordinate I&C design with P&IDs and with process, electrical, civil/structural, and piping
• Interface with construction trades; perform regular field walks; support RFIs, submittals, and as-builts; confirm installation matches design
• Support engineers with drawing packages, bills of material, and constructability. This is a designer role — not instrument specification, PLC/DCS programming, or stamped engineering

The ideal candidate has produced I&C construction packages for heavy industrial, process, or manufacturing plants, takes pride in buildable drawings, and works as comfortably in the field as in EPLAN, AutoCAD, and Revit. This role requires a strong sense of ownership and clear collaboration with engineers, other discipline designers, and maintenance, construction, and operation teams. Regular field walks are part of the job.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

• Proficiency in EPLAN for I&C panel layout and wiring (Electric P8 and/or Pro Panel)
• Working experience with AutoCAD for 2D construction drawings and/or Revit for 3D modeling and drawing production;both preferred
• Ability to read P&IDs and produce I&C deliverables for industrial instrumentation, including temperature, flow, level, andpressure
• Experience coordinating I&C designs with process, electrical, civil/structural, and piping
• Working knowledge of the NEC to produce installable field and panel design
• Comfort on site: field walks, construction coordination, and redlines
• 3+ years of relevant I&C design or drafting experience with a drafting or design degree or certificate, or 6+ years without a degree or certificate, or equivalent evidence of exceptional ability
• Preferred. Navisworks, Revizto, and/or Bluebeam; ISA-5.1 / ISA-5.4; UL 508A panel construction awareness; DeltaV RIO /CHARM or similar DCS cabinet layout; hazardous-area installation details (NEC 500 / 505); SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) orequivalent instrument database; heavy industrial, process, or manufacturing plant experience.
