Job summary

The Queen's Health Systems in Honolulu, HI seeks a dedicated Sterile Processing Technician to handle instrument processing, supply, and distribution across SP/OR Core/SDS as assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs a variety of instrument processing, supply, and distribution functions in Sterile Processing (SP), Operating Room (OR) Core, Same Day Surgery (SDS) or department as assigned.
• Performs duties in accordance with Body Substance Isolation, established departmental procedures and accepted techniques.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: All required, designated by frequency.

• Essential: standing, walking, kneeling, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; lifting usual weight of 20 pounds up to maximum 50 pounds; pushing/pulling usual weight of maximum 50 pounds; carrying maximum weight of 50 pounds.
• Frequent: stooping/bending, kneeling, reaching above, at and below shoulders, repetitive arm/hand motion and standing for long period of time.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Subjected to heat while wearing protective uniform and working in decontam.
• Subjected to noise/vibration from sterilizers and equipment.
• Exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals.
• Minimal exposure to fumes and gases.
• Work environment can be mentally and emotionally stressful.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent education.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Prior experience cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments preferred.
• Knowledge of automated systems preferred.
