Job summary

Keeley Companies is seeking an Instrument Man for our Geospatial Group in St. Louis, MO. The role involves traveling to jobsites and, when not traveling, the option to work remotely from home.

You will support surveying operations, operate GPS and total stations, and coordinate with engineers and clients while advancing field skills through mentorship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus; or 3–5 years of applicable experience.
  • Basic understanding of surveying principles and field measurement techniques.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS software, or survey data collection systems is a plus.
  • Ability to learn and operate survey equipment including GPS, robotic total stations, and digital levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Assign specific tasks to crew members.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and clients.
  • Organize and plan survey logistics.
  • Act as the primary point of contact.
  • Assist Survey Crew Chiefs and Project Surveyors in field operations.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain survey equipment including GPS receivers, total stations, levels, and data collectors.
  • Assist with construction staking, boundary, topographic, and as-built surveys.
  • Help establish and recover survey control points and benchmarks.
  • Verify measurements and assist in quality checks of data.
  • Maintain survey equipment and report issues to supervisors.
  • Learn surveying standards and technology through field experience and mentorship.
  • Perform other duties to support survey operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, or a related field is a plus; Or 3-5 years of applicable experience is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of surveying principles and field measurement techniques.
