Description

Full-time vacancy beginning in August 2025. This is an academic year position, typically running from mid-August through mid-May. Develops and teaches concepts and strategies for welding courses, including layout, blueprint reading, fabrication, various welding techniques, inspection, testing, and math. Teaching may occur at MATC campuses, business, community sites, evenings, or weekends.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Prepare and deliver instruction; manage classroom/laboratory.
  2. Develop and revise curriculum; assist in program evaluation.
  3. Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
  4. Assess student performance and advise students academically.
  5. Collaborate with advisory committees and participate in departmental and institutional meetings.
  6. Promote the program, recruit and retain students, and support student organizations.
  7. Develop industry relationships; complete program evaluations.
  8. Maintain professional development and stay current in the field.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Educational Requirements: Must have at least one of the following:

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field, or
  • 10 years (20,000 hours) of welding experience, or
  • State-approved registered apprenticeship in relevant trades.

Minimum Occupational Experience: 4 years (8,000 hours) in welding, including oxy-fuel, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, plasma cutting, blueprint reading, inspection, and testing. Experience with welding codes and quality control is also required.

In addition, at least one of the following must be met:

  • At least one year of recent work experience in welding (within the last five years), or
  • Two years of recent post-secondary welding teaching experience (within the last five years).

Certifications: Within two years, must obtain AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). Preferred certifications include state weld certifications and journey-level status in relevant trades.

Additional Requirements

  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
  • Willingness to learn and use instructional technologies such as Blackboard, SMART boards, and emerging platforms.
Additional Information

Start date: Fall semester. Hours vary based on course load. Location may vary across MATC campuses. Salary is competitive, based on experience and internal equity.
