Job summary

Just In Time Staffing seeks a Weld Trainer to develop and deliver training for new and existing welders in a manufacturing setting. You will coach teams on MIG and TIG welding, blueprint interpretation, quality standards, and safety practices to improve weld performance and consistency.

Responsibilities include evaluating trainee progress, maintaining records, and collaborating with production, quality, and engineering to identify training needs and continuous improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on welding experience in a welding/fabrication environment.
  • Proficient in MIG and TIG welding; experience with flux-core/robotic welding a plus.
  • Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols xengineering specs.
  • Experience training or mentoring others in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong communication of technical information to varied experience levels.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Onsite work ability and independent prioritization of training plans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct welding training for new hires and welders.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in welding techniques and machine setup.
  • Train in safety, PPE usage, LOTO, and other procedures.
  • Evaluate trainee skill level through tests and assessments.
  • Educate on welding procedures and AWS standards.
  • Coach on workmanship, productivity, and adherence to specs.
  • Maintain training records, certifications, and progress reports.
  • Assist in progression testing and refresher training as needed.
  • Partner with production, quality, and engineering for training needs.
  • Develop and update training materials, toolbox talks, and job aids.
  • Promote a positive learning environment and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

The Weld Trainer will develop, deliver, and maintain training for new and existing welders. This role supports safe, high-quality, and efficient welding operations by training employees on welding processes, equipment setup, blueprint interpretation, quality expectations, standard work, and safety procedures.

The Weld Trainer serves as a technical resource, coach, and mentor to welding personnel while partnering with production, quality, and engineering teams to improve weld performance and consistency.

Primary Job Duties
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct welding training for new hires and existing welders across applicable welding processes.
  • Provide hands‑on instruction in welding techniques, machine setup, fixture use, material preparation, weld symbols, blueprint reading, and quality standards.
  • Train employees in safe work practices, proper use of personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout expectations, and other safety procedures.
  • Evaluate trainee skill level through practical weld tests, observations, and performance assessments.
  • Educate welders on interpretation and application of welding procedure specifications and AWS standards.
  • Coach welders on workmanship, productivity, weld quality, rework reduction, and adherence to welding procedures specifications.
  • Maintain accurate training records, certification documentation, skills matrices, and progress reports.
  • Assist in welder progression testing and refresher training as required by company or regulatory standards.
  • Partner with production supervisors, quality personnel, and engineering to identify training needs, process issues, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and update training materials, toolbox talk micro‑lessons, job aids, and visual standards.
  • Promote a positive learning environment and model professional behavior, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
Skills / Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands‑on welding experience in a welding/fabrication manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MIG and TIG welding required; experience with flux‑cored, robotic welding, and experience welding carbon, stainless, and aluminum is a plus.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, work instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong understanding of weld quality standards, visual inspection practices, and common welding defects.
  • Prior experience training, mentoring, coaching, or leading others in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to employees with varying levels of experience.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and MS Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently, organize priorities, and follow through on training plans and documentation.
Education Background
  • High School Diploma / GED or equivalent.
  • Technical certificate, apprenticeship, or associate degree in welding, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Standing, walking and sitting for extended period of times (up to 2‑3 miles per day).
  • Mobility and dexterity to move around operating machinery and powered industrial equipment.
  • Ability to work onsite to physically support manufacturing requirements.
