Job summary

OSU-OKC invites applications for a full-time faculty position focused on teaching courses in design or professional practice, developing curricula, and advising students.

Requirements include an Associate in Applied Science with licensure and at least three years of industry experience; Licensed Surveyor. Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's in a related field and LMS experience.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an Associate in Applied Science in the discipline and licensure plus industry experience.
  • Must be Licensed Surveyor with minimum of three years of experience.
  • Educational/professional background supports teaching in design or professional practice content.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester for labs or 15 for non-lab courses (or equivalent).
  • Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives and grading procedures.
  • Advise students in selecting academic courses and maintain office hours.
  • Participate in institutional initiatives, serve on projects, and contribute to course/curriculum design.

About this Position

To develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn the subject matter presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community. Faculty members teaching courses that are primarily design or professional practice in content must be qualified to teach the subject matter by virtue of professional licensure or by educational and professional experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate in Applied Science in discipline and licensure plus industry experience.
  • Must be Licensed Surveyor with minimum of three years of experience.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail, internet and learning management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, and public/student contact.
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Masters in related field preferred.
  • Experience in Learning Management Systems such as D2L, Blackboard, or Canvas.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Teach a minimum twelve (12) credit hours per semester for laboratory classes or fifteen (15) credit hours for non-laboratory classes or equivalent service. This may include evening or online instruction.
  2. Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.
  3. Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives and grading procedures for all courses.
  4. Advise and assist students in selecting appropriate academic courses.
  5. Post and keep office hours per institutional guidelines.
  6. May serve as lead instructor.
  7. Implement the institutionally-recommended strategies for retention.
  8. Implements the assessment model.
  9. Serve on special projects and committees.
  10. Assists in the designing/revising of courses and curricula.
  11. Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
  12. Completes all mandatory training and participate in RPT recommended level of professional development each year.
  13. Fulfill all faculty requirements as noted in the Faculty Handbook.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.

  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking and listening.
  • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
