Job summary

Description

We are accepting applications on an on-going basis for futureconsideration for part-time instructors in this discipline at anyof our three colleges (Oxnard, Moorpark, and Ventura). Applicationssubmitted to this pool will be kept on file for the Summer2026, Fall 2026, and/or Spring 2027semesters and may be considered if avacancy becomes available within the academicyear.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor(Non-Contact/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroominstruction to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose offacilitating the attainment of their academic or vocationalobjectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Codesections 87482.5, Instructors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may beemployed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.
  • Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, orperformance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities,communication skills, and higher order thinking skills amongstudents through appropriate assignments and activities inone-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructionalsettings.
  • Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, otherinstitutions of higher education,lifelong learning resources, andeffective study skills; refer students to support services,programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting courseobjectives and student learning outcomes through assignments,projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in atimely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or duringestablished consultation office hours.
  • Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlinesand student learning outcomes to maximize student learning inalignment with department, college, and district goals; implementthe student performance objectives as listed on the official courseoutline of record.
  • Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment,attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, andstudent learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reportsrelated to course and student progress in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks,manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, withdiscipline faculty; order instructional materials according tocampus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery.
  • Revise and update course content and materials of instruction inaccordance with new theory, application, and industry developmentswithin the discipline or area of specialization.
  • Update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty on a regularbasis to assess and revise measurable student performanceindicators for each course.
  • May participate in curriculum and program development; may provideinput into the development of student learning outcomes.
  • May attend and participate on committees and in department,division, campus, and district meetings.
  • May participate in articulation and matriculation relatedactivities.
  • May provide work direction to others.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for thediscipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Boardof Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Facultyand Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

The minimum qualifications for this discipline are asfollows:

Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercisescience, education with an emphasis in physical education,kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical educationOR Bachelor's degree in any of the aboveAND Master's degree in any life science, dance,physiology, health education, recreation administration or physicaltherapy; OR the equivalent* OR;possession of an appropriate California Community CollegeCredential.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited collegeor university.

EQUIVALENCY

The Ventura County Community College District, in its desire toselect outstanding faculty members from the largest possible poolof qualified applicants, recognizes the fact that candidates mayattain expertise in a discipline through a variety of means.Certain combinations of education, experience and otheraccomplishments in the field may be judged by the District as equalto the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Candidateswhose transcripts do not list the title of their degree exactly aslisted above, but feel they possess such equivalent qualificationsare encouraged to complete and submit the SupplementalQuestionnaire for Equivalency with their application forreview by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee.The equivalency review is an independentprocess for district wide disciplines that is separate from the recruitmentprocess to fill a vacancy. A subcommittee of disciplineexperts that is coordinated by an Academic Senate President willreviews the equivalency materials and make a recommendation as towhether or not the applicant demonstrated they have qualificationsthat are equivalent to those shown in the minimum qualificationssection of the job posting. For disciplines that are unique to aspecific campus the equivalency may be done by the hiring committeealong with an Academic Senate President. Please be aware that the hiring committee may not be able to wait for the results from theequivalency review due to varioustime constraints and may need to move forward with the recruitment process.

Example: Minimum Qualifications state: "Master's degree inagriculture". Candidate's transcripts state: "Master's degree in agricultural science".

Since the degree on the candidate's transcripts inthe example do not EXACTLY MATCH the degree listed in the minimumqualifications section, this candidate MUST complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency in order to be considered. When completing the form, be sure to explain in detail how your qualifications are equivalent to the required minimum qualifications. Do not assume that you do not need to submit a Supplemental Questionnaire forEquivalency because your degree is similar to a degree stated inthe minimum qualifications. Degree titles that are not an exact match will not be considered outside of the equivalencyprocess.

SELECTION PROCESS

PAY PHILOSOPHY

Startingsalaries for PT Faculty are based on educational achievement and relevant experience. Initial placement is within the startingsalary range. STARTING SALARY

Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester per 10% load.

Part-time faculty with non-classroom assignments are paid between $2,678 and $4,146 per semester per 10% load.

Part-time faculty salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, AFT, Local 1828, AFL-CIO and the Ventura County Community College District. More information can be found in the AFT contract.
